if any of you guys are heading to canada any time soon let me know as our trout fishing is now picking up for the season. i will be more than willing to take anyone out. i am doing through dodder withdrawals so it will be nice to spend some time with someone who has fished it recently. cheers Eamonn

whats the story in regard to seatrout on the dodder? how far up river do the seatrout run? I fished the river around milltown many years ago & never saw one so I presume they get as far as smurfits or beaver row. Whats the average size? I fished below ballsbridge a few years ago & saw a fair few small seatrout... I have seen big seatrout in the Tolka in late september 2lb/3lb presumably late running fish... does the dodder get a late run of bigger fish? thanks

I am keen to take up fly fishing and would like to join and become a member of the Dodder Anglers association. Would it be pobbible to get details of how I would need to go about becoming a member, who to contact (number, email), membership fee, etc. Any help and information would be much appreciated,

Hi All,
I live in the Clonskeagh area and have just purchased my permit for the rest of the year. I am now looking for the best places on the Dodder to wet a line. I have heard anywhere from DonnyBrook bus garage up is good but obviously would like to narrow this down a bit. Its a long walk up river and I would rather spend my time fishing... I prefer fishing with a wet fly so faster water is preferable. i tried a run up past the Dropping Well in the park and didnt have too much luck - one small brown. I have heard there are decent fish in this river and recently somebody took a 6+ pound fish in a competition.
Also if any members are keen to meet for a fishing session or to share some tall tales of the one that got away then let me know. Local knowledge is invaluable when it comes to catching the trophy fish we all dream of.
Cheers
Gary

took the day off work today for my birthday, and headed down to the river. water level and colour was perfect. there was a nice stain to the water. bbut there was strong winds which made fishing a little more difficult than usual. i caught a few on the dry but found small gold beadheads to be the choice of the day. caught fish ranging from 4 to 10 inches, which is a good sign for the health of the river. looking to get out sunday, maybe even up to the resevoir. what type of activity is taking place up there?

i got out on sunday for a few hours. the weather was perfect and the level and colour was just right, giving the fish an appetite all day on the surface. it made for some exciting fishing. not to mention there were a few nice ppl on the river to make my day even more of a learning curve.

"sorry for the late reply, i joined by going to rorys tackle in temple bar. they are pretty informative guys over there. but to be honest with you the info i have gained has been on the river. i have learned alot from trial and error and a fair bit from the local anglers on the river. everyone i have talked to on the river is really helpful. i am going to try to get out again in the milltown area tomorrow for some more action. hope this helps bill" Thanks for this - I actually joined yesterday in Baumans in stillorgan. Need to learn the river though ... had a look at it yesterday but the water is a bit coloured and there was little fish to be seen.

I WAS ON THE DODDER LAST SUNDAY AND CAUGHT NOTHING, BUT COULD SEE AT LEAST 15-20 FISH ALL AROUND MY LINE MAKING A TWAT OUT OF ME. BUT IN AGAINST THE BANK THERE WAS A COUPLE OF BIGGER FISH CRUISING THE OVERHANGING BANK. THEY WHERE OBVIOUSLY WILD BROWN TROUT. YOU COULD TELL BY THERE DEMEANOR AND 1 HAD ONLY HALF A DORSAL FIN THAT'S HOW CLEAN THE WATER WAS,(OH. I WAS BETWEEN MILTOWN BRIDGE AND CLONSKEAGH BRIDGE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE RIVER). TOTALLY MY FAULT BECAUSE I COULDN'T BELIEVE THE SHEER AMOUNT OF TROUT HOPPING AROUND MY BAIT AND NOT GRABBING THE BIG JUICY WORM ON THE END OF MY LINE. I'M GOING OUT TOMORROW AND GOING TO THE BACK OF THE DROPPING WELL WHERE IT IS DEEPER AND A LOT BETTER FOR FISHING. BLACKMAMBA
